11 Books to Movies in 2018 You Can’t Miss

I absolutely love to read. I’ve been reading my whole life and will get lost in a book until the wee hours of the morning. Regardless of whether I had school or work the next morning. Each year, I love to see what books are turning into movies. If I haven’t read the book, I make sure to do it before it comes out so I can see how close it is to the book. Some movies don’t disappoint and others I have to shake my head at! There seems to be no in between! Here is my list of books to movies in 2018 that I can’t wait to see!

1 – 12 Strong

On September 11th, 2001 the world watched in terror. On September 12th, 2001 they volunteered to fight. Twelve soldiers gave us a reason to hope.

This is the account of a small band of Special Forces soldiers who entered Afghanistan immediately following September 11, 2001 and, riding to war on horses, defeated the Taliban.

Outnumbered 40 to 1, they capture the strategic Afghan city of Mazar-e Sharif, effectively defeating the Taliban throughout the rest of the country. They are welcomed as liberators as they ride on horses into the city, the streets thronged with Afghans overjoyed that the Taliban have been kicked out.

The soldiers rest easy, as they feel they have accomplished their mission. And then, the action takes a unexpected turn. During a surrender of Taliban troops, the Horse Soldiers are ambushed by the would-be POW’s and, dangerously outnumbered, they fight for their lives in the city’s ancient fortress known as Qala-I Janghi, or the House of War.

2 – Maze Runner: The Death Cure

3 – Annihilation

4 – Every Day

5 – A Wrinkle In Time

To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L’Engle’s unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg’s father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.

6 – Love, Simon

8 – Boy Erased

This one made my books to movies in 2018 list because I’m a geek lol. Even though this one is not your typical book to movie series. This set was written for charity as illustrations back in 2001.

10 – Little Women

The one made my books to movies in 2018 because… Well, hello! It’s a classic!

The four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, live in Concord, Massachusetts, with their beloved mother while their father is stationed far away as an army chaplain. Although not well-off financially, they are nonetheless well-known in the neighborhood for their charitable work. The girls amuse themselves at home with imaginative fun and games, including performing plays and writing sketches. They are the picture of a loving family and each daughter has her own part to play in it. The March girls are so deftly and vividly drawn that everyone who reads this book will identify with one sister in the story, whether they are reading Little Women for the first time as a child or rereading it for the 100th time as an adult.

11 – Ashes in the Snow

This was originally named “Between Shades of Grey”. Can only imagine they changed the name due to another popular book with a similar name?

Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they’ve known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin’s orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.

Lina finds solace in her art, meticulously-and at great risk-documenting events by drawing, hoping these messages will make their way to her father’s prison camp to let him know they are still alive. It is a long and harrowing journey, spanning years and covering 6,500 miles, but it is through incredible strength, love, and hope that Lina ultimately survives. Between Shades of Gray is a novel that will steal your breath and capture your hear.
