This post is in response to several people reaching out to me asking my thoughts on reincarnation. I know this is a touchy subject because it’s not widely accepted. For those that accept it, have their own opinions of what reincarnation is and why it happens.

1 – Punishment. One view is that (and this is the harshest one I’ve ever heard. This one is NOT my view and I know my jaw dropped when I heard them say it!) people are reincarnated until they get it right. Those that were born with disabilities were born so because they did something horrible in a previous life and this was their punishment. Ummm. I’ll be honest, that view scared me a bit.
2 – Cut short. You died too soon and need to finish out your life. You are reincarnated to experience the life that was taken from you previously.
3 – Pay it forward (so to speak). Something fantastic may have happened to you that you felt indebted. Possibly organ donation. You come back so that you may be there for someone who needs an organ during that second lifetime as an example.
4 – Lack of contentment. People who have lived a long life, may not have LIVED life. So, they ask for a second chance to come back and really live the life they wanted to live. Reasons can include traveling to every place under the sun. Another reason could be they didn’t have the career that they really wanted. Or maybe they wanted to be more charitable and devote themselves to a cause, but, that previous life, for some reason, they couldn’t.
5 – Fruits of your past labor. The saying goes, hard work pays off. All good things come to those who wait. You could be reincarnated to enjoy the hard work you put in, in your previous life.
Those are just five reasons that people could be reincarnated. My belief with reincarnation also goes a little further. I feel that you have the same soul from one life to another. Not that you are the same person from one life to the next, but, who you know now, you knew before and you will know again. In one life your present life mother may have been your sister or brother. She may be your best friend in your next life. The people you connect with, you will always connect with in one way or another.
Do you believe in reincarnation? If you do, why do you think people come back? If you don’t, why don’t you? And remember, there are no judgments in your answers here. I love having this sort of conversation!
I don’t believe in reincarnation. But if I did, these would be great reasons for coming back. As a Christian, I do believe in an afterlife.
These are fascinating reasons why people might be reincarnated. I don’t necessarily believe in reincarnation, but I still enjoyed reading this article.
I don’t believe in reincarnation. But I do see why some people believe. It’s very interesting to read about reincarnation.
No, I don’t believe in reincarnation. I believe that when we die our souls either go to heaven or hell based upon whether or not we’ve put our faith in Christ’s redemption, not upon how good or bad we were. Reincarnation would make that gift of salvation a waste of His death and I don’t believe He died in vain 🙂
These are interesting views on reincarnation. I guess everyone has a little bit of a different thought process about why it would happen!
I believe in reincarnation – I really do. I also believe that my aunt is still watching over me. She passed when I Was 5, I will be 35 this year and every so often I swear I can feel her presence. When I was younger, I thought when a bird (the robin birds) were close to me, there was always this one who came super closer, that it was her saying hi and letting me know she was watching over me.
I do believe in reincarnation and that our souls return to finished what needs to be finished from the past lives. Great post!
I don’t believe in reincarnation but it was very interesting to read your views on it! Thanks for sharing this!
It’s not something I really believe in, but I think it’s an interesting concept. It is fun to think about it though.
I can’t say that I believe totally in reincarnation personally. However, I am really undecided about what happens when we die. I do believe that reincarnation is an infinite possibility. I do also believe that we may all go to Heaven (or Hell, depending on how we lived our lives). I am still open to any and all possibilities. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer here.
I am a Catholic and I don’t believe in reincarnation but I am open to learn about different religions who believe in reincarnation. I have some Asian friends who are Buddhists (I think) and they believe that reincarnation is a punishment for something they failed to do or to pay back for wrong deeds they have done in their past lives.
You are right when you say this is a touchy subject. I do believe in reincarnation and also feel we care our same soul. To me I believe there is a purpose for everyone we meet and everything that happens to us in this life time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
These are interesting theories and I love learning about what others think. I am always interested in how people get to the belief system that they carry through life.
I’m not really sure to be honest. It’s hard to really know what really does go on after we die.
this is a really interesting post! thank you for sharing your wisdom on the subject.
I don’t believe in reincarnation but find it interesting to see other’s point of views. Thank you for sharing.
I don’t believe in reincarnation. I believe we only have one chance at life. I do believe in living babies taking on traits are a loved one that is gone. That could just be genetics.
